Depending on the needs of the job seeker, that may or may not be necessary. When clients comes to me knowing what they want to do for the next step of their career, then my role would be to create job search documents that are in line with their vision and facilitate their ability to convey their value to prospective employers.

Thanks for visiting and commenting, Justin! Yes, it is a challenge to work from home.

Depending on the circumstances, it may be the only option. It is good to assess the situation realistically and make goals for your work based on that. As it was mentioned in the full article, setting and enforcing expectations are also very important to get everyone “on board.” It makes life much easier in the long run

Hello Melissa,

I have found working from home - successfully - the most daunting task in the whole wide world.

I have found that you need a place away from home or at least separated by 3-4 doors and no intercom communication.

Your wife, your mum, your children, the gardner the milkman and news man are all part of the parcel you will get at home.

A very very interesting post I must say.

Best Regards,
Justin,

In my humble opinion... the best thing a career professional can do is to find good talent, but more importantly, gauge their strengths and weaknesses and find out what a particular individual would be best suited for.

But I do find all the points in this post very strong and highly powerful.

Hey Melissa,

Great tips. Undoubtedly, a cover letter is very important, as it is the first chance to make a good impression on the recruiter. Therefore, one needs to do proper research about the company before hand and be able to relate the skills and experience with the position and company that one is applying to. You made good point about focusing on your strengths in line with the company's goals and vision.

Thank you for visiting and for your comments, Samaira!

Good point about education affecting promotions, too -- that's very true. Another area that can be impacted by education is salary. It's not unusual for companies to start salaries at a higher level based on education or increase pay when a degree is earned.

This post makes a lot of sense. Formal education serves as the first step in gaining the best employment opportunities. Almost all companies that I have come across have set standards about the kind of formal training that they ask for. If you do not meet that criteria, no matter your abilities, you don't get even a single chance to prove your worth. I've seen this apply to promotions within the organizations as well. If you have right certifications and trainings under your belt, you have much higher chances (than your peers lacking such qualifications) of being picked up for progression to the next level, provided your performance is equally well rated as your peers.
