Do You Think They Won't Talk?

A couple weeks ago, I wrote a post about behaviors to avoid when job searching. Not only is saying and doing those various things incredibly idiotic, you’ll also get a bad reputation.

Honestly, do you think folks in the HR community don’t talk? If so, you’re sadly mistaken.

A perfect example of this comes from a post by Kerry Sandberg Scott on Clue Wagon. It seems there was a candidate who was not thrilled about being passed up to interview for a particular position and wrote Kerry a short, rude note to express his displeasure.

Here’s where it gets interesting:

“About a year later, I saw a post on an HR forum. It was from a corporate recruiter, and she said she had gotten the same reply to a rejection letter. Eight or nine other people had chimed in to say that they’d gotten it as well. We compared notes and, lo and behold, it was the same guy. He had applied to hundreds of jobs (maybe thousands—who knows), and when he got a rejection, he sent the same one-line retort.”

Moral of the story: if you are tempted to write something rude to HR, don’t. This kind of recognition will definitely not help your job search.

maybe it will help.. courtesy of LiveFromAmsterdam
