False Job References

There are companies that will (for a fee) pretend to be former employers and provide references? Seriously!?

It was a long time before I could pick my jaw off my keyboard after reading about this.

This is just unconscionable, unscrupulous, despicable… for both the companies that provides the service and the people who use them. I know there would be people who would justify the existence of such companies or the reasons for using them, but I just can’t buy it.

The cardinal rule in job seeking is never lie. Not about education, not about experience, and certainly not about references.

Just read these posts by Working Girl, Career Hub, Brad Federman at The Engagement Factor, and Alison Doyle at About.com Job Searching to get their opinions on the matter.

Don’t do it — don’t lie.
